Can we use a Damo Guard to repair the bottom portion of the column?
No. A DAMO GUARD must never be used as a repair for a damaged rack column. It is a protective device, designed to deflect and absorb horizontal impacts, not to restore structural capacity. In other words, DAMO GUARD helps prevent damage, but it does not fix damage that has already occurred.
If a DAMO GUARD is installed over an upright that has been hit, bent, or twisted, it can hide critical rack damage. This poses a risk to warehouse safety: the rack may have lost capacity, braces may be distorted, or the column may be compromised, while the guard makes everything appear “protected” from the outside. In a worst-case scenario, this could contribute to a partial or full rack collapse.
When damage is present, the correct approach is to remove the guard, inspect the upright, and repair it using an engineered rack repair kit, rather than just covering it. At Damotech, that means using products like:
- DAMO PRO – A heavy-duty, made-to-measure repair kit that permanently replaces the damaged bottom portion of the column, restores original load capacity, and comes with a lifetime impact warranty. It’s designed for high-traffic zones and locations exposed to repeated forklift contact.
- DAMO FLEX – A modular, cost-effective repair kit ideal for mid-aisle or lower-traffic areas. It’s made from structural steel, installed with minimal unloading, and carries a 10-year warranty against manufacturing defects.
Once the damaged upright is properly repaired with DAMO PRO or DAMO FLEX, you can then reinstall DAMO GUARD (or another protection product) in front of the column to help prevent future damage to that location.
Bottom line:
- Use DAMO GUARD to protect healthy rack columns.
- Use DAMO PRO or DAMO FLEX to repair damaged rack columns.
If you suspect that a guard is hiding damage, contact Damotech for a free rack damage assessment. A rack expert will inspect the upright, recommend the correct repair kit, and help you bring that rack location back to a safe and compliant condition.
